Focus Character: Lauren Songs Featured: “Start of Something”, “Watch This Space” and “Best of Me” Viewers: 3.55 Million Airdate: 26/10/08, 18:15 Official Summary: When Lauren is told she needs to get fitter, her confidence is dented. She then focuses all her energy and time on rehearsing and working out in order to be like the other girls. The teachers are impressed with Lauren’s enthusiasm, but they don’t realise how far Lauren is pushing herself. Lauren is exhausted and becomes grumpy and short tempered with her dance partner Danny. The night of her peformance arrives and she finally masters the dance. However, she has put so much strain on her body that she collapses right at the end. Backstage, she talks to Mr Nugent, who tells Lauren Britannia High is not about conforming, it’s about individuality and she was chosen to join the school because of who she is and she should never feel any pressure to be anything else. Lauren realises that she has been foolish. Full of regret, Lauren promises to be herself from now on. |

Anna, the music mentor, is concerned that Danny is behind in his written work and could do without the distraction or he may fail the class but he ignores her advice. As the student rep, Danny has to chair a question and answer session with Girls Aloud, where he has to read a list of questions. Girls Aloud and the audience protest, when Danny does not ask on serious question. He then panics and bolts from the stage and hides. After observing Danny’s behaviour, Anna finds Danny and tells him that she knows he can’t read. Danny is worried that his secret is out but Anna assures him that he doesn’t need to leave school, she thinks he has dyslexia and vows to help him as Danny opens up to her. A few days later Danny is back at school after attending a residential school where he was diagnosed as being dyslexic. |

Focus Character: Jez Songs Featured: “Wake Up”, “I Am Who I Am” and “Proud” Viewers: 2.53 Million Airdate: 09/11/08, 19:00 Official Summary: It’s Jez’ birthday and the gang decide to celebrate with a visit to the roller disco. Jez is having a great time until he bumps into some old friends. He is then forced to reveal the truth to his Britannia High pals; he’s really a secret millionaire. Jez reasons that had they all known the truth they would have treated him differently, he would have been the rich kid, rather than their mate. After Jez has gone home, the rest of the group worry about him after his outburst. They decide to visit him in his mansion. When they arrive at Jez’ house they discover that he has also been lying to his dad, who thinks Jez is attending a business school. Understanding Jez’ dilemma, the gang all agree to keep schtum and pretend to be business students. However, Jez’ dad finally finds out, and gives him an ultimatum - leave Britannia High or leave the family. Jez chooses his passion for performing over his father. He hopes to be able to build bridges with his father in the future, but for now, he must do what is right for himself and follow his dream. |
| Episode ID: 1.04 Episode Name: Fame Focus Character: Lola Songs Featured: “Overnight Sensation”, “Get Over Yourself”, “Picking Up The Pieces” Viewers: 2.51 Million Airdate: 16/11/08, 19:00 Official Summary: On a night out with her friends, Lola accidentally bumps into Matt Willis, in front of the waiting paparazzi, and kisses him to say thank you when he helps her with her broken shoe. The next day she opens up the newspaper and finds herself pictured with him and described as his new mystery lady. Then a journalist approaches Lola to ask if she wants to sell the story - she could make her famous. Lola initially declines, however, with the journalist’s promises of auditions for a Boyzone video and invites to celebrity parties, Lola sells her ’story’. Lola begins to believe her own hype and starts acting like a diva. Pretty soon both her friends and teachers are sick of her behaviour and when her attitude results in her being called in front of the Principal, Lola decides she doesn’t need Britannia High anymore and turns her back on the school and her friends. However, Lola soon discovers that there is no such thing as a free pass to stardom. She joins a modelling agency which only offers her work advertising spot cream and ketchup so in desperation she calls the journalist again, who advises her to get on the club scene and hook herself another celebrity. She feels worthless and has begun to realise the huge mistake she made leaving Britannia High. Lola returns to Britannia High with her tail between her legs and is told by the Principal that she will need to re-audition. After a long night of work, she performs in front of the Principal who finally agrees to let her return, adding that she will receive fame again once day, but only because she has earned it. |
| Episode ID: 1.05 Episode Name: Go Your Own Way Focus Character: BB Songs Featured: “Confessions”, “Fight Song”, “The Things That We Don’t Say” Viewers: 2.54 Million Airdate: 24/11/08, 19:00 Wiki Summary: BB’s life is changed forever when his older brother, Julius, spots him in the dance studio. Desperate to prove his manhood, he joins Julius’ gang and is forced to handle a gun when he states that the school has not made him soft. When he refuses to raid a shop, the lads drive off in BB’s car. When BB goes back to Julius’ flat, he has an argument with his brother and leaves the flat to kip at school. The next morning, BB find out through the head teacher that his brother and a “mate” had a gun fight and Julius was shot. BB runs all the way to hospital and holds Julius’ hand as he dies. BB gets angry around everyone and threatens to kill the murderer. However, Jez convinces him otherwise and the episode ends with the gang doing street dancing. |
| Episode ID: 1.06 Episode Name: Miss Independent Focus Character: Claudine Songs Featured: “You’ve Got Nothing On Me”, “Wake The Dead” and “Growing Pains” Viewers: 2.01 Million Airdate: 30/11/08, 19:00 Wiki Summary: Claudine’s head over heels in love with Danny, but he only has eyes for Lauren. Determined to ruin their relationship, Claudine steals the rose and card that Danny left on Lauren’s bed for their three month anniversary, making Lauren think that he’s forgotten. Claudine then leaves a present for Danny in his locker, and remarks to Lauren that Danny may have a ’secret admirer’, further angering Lauren. Meanwhile, Lola is convinced that she’s seen a ghost, and the gang plays a prank on her, organising a midnight ghost hunt in the school, with Ronnie dressed up as a ghost. During the ghost hunt, Danny and Lauren, now aware of Claudine’s plan to split them up, confront her about it. Claudine runs off in tears, before calling Lola an idiot, and taunting BB about his dead brother, Julius. Danny and Lauren then feel guilty for provoking her, and runs off to find her.Claudine tells Danny tearfully all about her past, and that her mother used to secretly abuse her when she was a kid. Realising that, underneath all of the make up, Claudine is really a sweet, troubled girl, Danny tries to cheer her up by dressing up in stage costumes. Claudine eventually laughs, and joins him, before they dance onto the stage, where Claudine confesses her love for Danny, but understands that he doesn’t love her back. Danny then kisses her, unaware that a tearful Lauren is watching backstage, shocked. |

Stefan chooses Lola to represent the school in a dance contest, and she has extra rehearsals alone with Stefan to prepare for it. When eventually Stefan admits he has feelings for her, Lola plans to drop out of Britannia High and join another performing arts school so they can be together. Stefan decides to return to Australia to prevent Lola from basing her life around their relationship. This episode features the classic line: Lola: Does he like Pea & Ham…or Ham & Pea? Meanwhile, Lauren struggles to come to terms with her heartbreak over Danny and tries to be friends with Claudine. |

However, his kindness of not telling her she is a bad singer leads to humiliation. Ronnie decides to leave Britannia High, and Jez unsuccessfully runs after her in attempt to convince her otherwise. However, Ronnie changes her mind and returns to her canteen job, while taking an evening course in hair and make-up so she can continue pursuing her dream of working in theatre. Also, Lauren deals with the possibility that she may have multiple sclerosis, and Danny finds himself in a dilemma when he reveals he has feelings for both Lauren and Claudine. |

Lauren gets her test results back, and is relieved that she does not have multiple sclerosis. Jez’s dad attends the showcase; he apologises to Jez and welcomes him back home. Stefan returns, admitting that he cannot stop thinking about Lola, and suggests that she goes to Australia with him, and she agrees. BB and Ronnie make plans to travel around the world. Danny at first chooses Lauren over Claudine, but because Lauren feels better about her test results, she does not want him back. Therefore, Danny moves on to Claudine, but she already knew that Danny chose Lauren first, so she declines. In the end, the showcase was fantastic, and everyone was friends and said their last goodbyes. |
